After the initial introduction of the PerfoTec system in 2013 in Spain, PerfoTec will now have for the 2015 berry season a total of 28 lasers installed on packaging lines throughout Europe. The system – including the Fast Respiration Meter which enables producers to design their packaging tailor made – was thoroughly tested in all stores of Marks & Spencer and the results have been excellent for both the retailer and its suppliers: 2-3 days more shelf-life, up to 20% less waste in stores and overall more in-store availability leading to significantly higher sales volumes. Marks & Spencer is together with PerfoTec to extend the technology to more categories. PerfoTec has been a standard choice already for over five years for many suppliers and retailers in e.g. potatoes, cut lettuce and spinach.
During the recent Fruitlogistica Exhibition in Berlin, M&S presented their Food Innovation Award to Total Berry (UK) and Surexport (Spain) rewarding their efforts in introducing the PerfoTec technology to berries. M&S representative Andy Mitchell says about PerfoTec: “This innovation in soft fruit keeps us pushing the boundaries of post-harvest technology, while still delivering the best quality. The PerfoTec system is now launching across the supply base and the quality has improved, complaints are in decline and waste has significantly dropped.”
